I’m a web application developer based in Sligo, Ireland. I build web applications using ruby on rails and drupal. Areas I specialize in include

• personalization and recommender systems
• using machine learning techniques for information extraction, information retrieval, sentiment analysis and information filtering
• community driven sites
• social networks

Previously I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute [1] (DERI) in Galway, Ireland on the Lion project [2] doing research related to the semantic web.

I completed my Phd [3] in Computer Science in UCD [4] under the supervision of Dr Nick Kushmerick [5] in November 2005 and submitted the final copy in march 2006. My Phd research was in adaptive information extraction.

I completed a Msc [6] in Computer Science in 2002. My Msc research was in Genre Classification and web recommender systems.

My main research interests are semantic-web [6], adaptive information extraction [6], automated annotation and classification of web documents, machine learning [6], personalization and recommender systems. I’m interested in using ideas from these research areas to build the next generation of web applications.
