Microblogging talk by Jyri Engeström of Jaiku

Here is an interesting talk given at a recent MoMo Amsterdam event by Jyri Engeström of Jaiku.

Some notes:

Included are five core principles for creating a successful social site.

  1. Define your object. You should be able to identify the core social objects in your application.
  2. Define your verbs. These are the actions that people perform on objects.
  3. Make objects sharable. It should be easy for users to share objects, send them to friends etc.
  4. Turn invitations in to gifts. There should be value for a user in inviting a friend to join the site.
  5. Charge the publishers not the spectators. Basic access should be free. Charge for premium features.

Disruptive innovation: should be simpler or cheaper or more convenient.
