About me

I'm a developer based in Sligo, Ireland. At the moment I mostly work on ruby and python stuff. I've been working as a freelance programmer and involved with various startups for most of the last three years.

Before that I did a stint in academia where my main focus was using machine learning to analyze and extract interesting patterns from text.

I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) in Galway, Ireland on the Lion project doing research related to the semantic web.

I completed my Phd in Computer Science in UCD under the supervision of Dr Nick Kushmerick in November 2005 and submitted the final copy in march 2006. My Phd research was in adaptive information extraction.

I completed a Msc in Computer Science in 2002. My Msc research was in Genre Classification and web recommender systems.

When I'm not programming I'm usually reading about programming, playing poker or, if the weather is right, surfing.
